How many dead coins already carry the name
A collision splits every search, every chart lookup and every bot command you will ever get. DexScreener only sees tokens holding live liquidity, so a launchpad full of corpses on your name still reads as clear. This counts the graveyard too.

The launchpad count is the one that catches people out. A name can read completely clear on DexScreener — which only lists tokens still holding liquidity — while the launchpad behind it holds dozens of corpses on the same ticker, every one of them splitting your search results and answering your bot commands. $LIFTOFF read clear and had fifteen. If a source does not answer, this says so and refuses the verdict rather than guessing at it.
Taken is not a spectrum
Sorted by how crowded the name already is. The interesting split is inside each bar: a token that never traded still divides a search result and still answers a bot command, but it is not competing for buyers. Most collisions are that kind.
Counted on the launchpad, not on the DEX. A name can look completely clear on DexScreener — which only lists tokens holding live liquidity — while the launchpad behind it holds dozens of corpses under the same ticker. Rows drawn as a dashed outline are names the launchpad could not be asked about, and they are not counted as clear. Two counts on this page differ on purpose: 12 are judged clear, meaning nothing live is trading under the name anywhere, while 10 have nothing on the launchpad at all. The 2 names in between carry only dead tokens — still enough to split a search, not enough to take the name.

Checked , refreshed every six hours. n/a means the launchpad could not be reached, not that the graveyard was empty, and a ticker in that state is marked unchecked rather than clear. Publishing "clear" for a name nobody checked is the one mistake this table cannot make.
